The Observatory for a Culture of the Territory was established in 2009 and comprises a team of technical staff and a scientific commitee, of which Dr. Escobar, among others, is a member. The Observatory for a Culture of the Territory is concieved as a platform for the study and consideration of sustainable territorial development. Its key strategic aims include: realisation of sustainable rural development projects with a particpatory focus, generalisation of geographical information at the landscape scale as well as the categorisation and valuation of cultural elements and rural infrastructures that define the territory. OCT is a space for exchange and cooperation between the different stakeholders present in the territory in order to facilitate communcation and dialogue across different realities. It is proposed as a space for transferral of knowledge between stakeholders of diverse kinds. It aims to bring the scientific community closer to the reality of civil society, and viceversa, facilitating as a result decision making in the sphere of political and public administration.
